For Sale

No, not this site, I just started it yesterday.  Of course, if the Tribune Company wants to include this site with the Chicago Cubs, which the Tribune just announced will be put on the sales block at the end of the 2007 season, I’m willing to talk.

The Tribune Company announced this morning that they have accepted an offer from local real estate mogul Sam Zell to buy the Tribune Company, which currently includes newspapers, television and radio stations, and the Chicago Cubs.  Shortly after this, a press release announced that the Chicago Cubs would be put on the sales block after the 2007 season!  It appears that Zell is a minority owner in the Chicago White Sox and would not be able to have ownership in both teams.

Anyone have $600 million they could loan CubsChic?!  It sounds like the bidding will start in the $500 million range.  The Tribune bought the Cubs for $20.5 million in 1981 - not a bad ROI!

Now I just hope that the winner bidder is a local fan who doesn’t want to change too much, except for the losing part.  Maybe someone between the McCaskeys and Steinbrenners?  Someone who values Wrigley Field and the loyal fans, and believes in building a farm system instead of just throwing money after free agents for the short term.  Anyone but Mark Cuban!

Stay tuned, it’s going to be an interesting year!
