Gonna be a long road trip…

The Cubs are only on a two game losing streak, so it’s no time to panic.  What is scary is that they’ve just started a stretch on the schedule where they’ll be away from Wrigley 13 of the next 16 games.  Playing the Phillies, Mets and White Sox (home), and then heading for the west coast, means that the bats need to wake up, base running mistakes have to disappear and the pitchers we’ve come to rely on have to keep pitching out of their minds.  No time for reversion to the mean!

A few days ago Lou was actually laughing during his pre-game radio show about the Cubs base running mistakes.  I guess he’d break down in tears or rip someone’s head off if he couldn’t laugh about it.

It appears that Soriano has remembered how to hit home runs.  His hitting streak has also reached 19 games and he’s reached base safely in all 27 games he’s played in this season.  Unfortunately, Derrek Lee’s 17 game hitting streak was ended, as was his streak of reaching base safely in all of his game appearances (32).

Angel Pagan was called up to replace Felix Pie on the roster.  Pie needs to play/bat every day right now so this move will be good for him.  The Cubs outfield was just too crowded for his needs.

With the addition of Pagan and newly called-up pitcher Angel Guzman (today’s starter), the Cubs now have two Angels on the team.  With the upcoming schedule looking the way it does, we can use all the angels we can get!
