Late night highs and lows
I almost went to bed last night while the Cubs game was still on, and maybe I should have. At least I would have had my nightmares while sleeping instead of watching the game.
The Cubs bats finally woke up and they had 7 hits in a row in the 7th inning, scoring 7 runs. It certainly looked like luck was in their favor! This year, however, our bullpen needs more than luck to keep a lead. The Cubs lose yet another 1-run contest; they are now 2-11 in those games.
I take consolation in that the Dodgers are a good team. Our bullpen wasn’t getting beat by no-names. Furcal, Garciaparra, Pierre, Kent - they are all paid to hit and they did. But as reliever Ohman said,”We get paid to get outs and we didn’t.”
Early in the game there was a very close call involving Derrick Lee and a baserunner. I held my breath as he managed to get his arm out of the way of the runner, avoiding a similar collision that broke his wrist last year. It’s nice to see that Lee isn’t shying away from making the plays, but it would be nicer if our infielders didn’t put him in such a position.
