Hendry and the Cubs do it again
While the Cubs were busy with a come-back victory over the Giants last night, Jim Hendry was busy getting a veteran catcher to help the Cubs in the second half. Hendry managed to get Jason Kendall from the Oakland A’s for catcher Rob Bowen and a minor league pitcher. Since moving Barrett to the Padres, the catching position of the Cubs has been anemic at the plate. Now we’ll have a lifetime .298 hitter, who also takes walks and can run, handling the pitchers. Not only can he play, but no one has anything but great things to say about his character, attitude and handling of his pitchers.
Of course, can’t let what Hendry accomplished overshadow yet another great game. Rameriz had the two-out double to drive in the winning runs, but Theriot and Lee also had the two-out singles in front of him to keep the inning alive. Clutch hits all around, in addition to a great game pitched by Hill and an uneventful save for Howry. It was great to see Hill go so deep into the game (8 innings) after our bullpen got a workout yesterday.
I’ll be at the game tonight as the Cubs go for five in a row! Hope the rain stays away. The weather might be the only thing that can cool off the Cubs right now. Let’s see if Bonds has the energy to play tonight.
