Zambrano does it all

You have to love it when your starting pitcher gets more hits than he gives up. Zambrano gave up only two hits in 7+ innings, yet went 3 for 4 at the plate himself. Some jokingly speculated that when he was pulled in the 8th inning, he was more upset about not getting another at bat than not finishing the game on the mound. Maybe Lou should consider batting Zambrano seventh or eighth, although that wouldn’t do much for the moral of some other Cubs.

ESPN has been grabbing up Cubs games and changing the start time in some cases. Tonight’s game will start at 6:05 instead of the usual 7:05. ESPN has also taken the August 5 Mets game and the August 19 Cardinals game. Both have been updated from TBD to 7:05 starts. Thankfully the Cubs aren’t allowed to play night games on Fridays or Saturdays, or the schedule would be even more messed up.

The trading deadline is tomorrow and I don’t envision the Cubs making any huge moves. Why mess up this great chemistry? Even with Lou mixing up the line-up daily, the players seem to make the most of their time on the field and don’t sulk when on the bench. I’d hate to give up young talent for a high-paid bat that may or may not add punch to this Cubs line-up; which seems to have found its home run swing on its own.
