A loss and a LOSS

The Cubs lost not just a game last night, they lost Soriano for probably a month or more. Soriano has been very streaky this year, so I’m just hoping that the time he’s out would have been his ‘off month’ and he’ll bounce back and help the Cubs get into the playoffs in September. Of course, what is now being called a 2-4 week injury could quickly become season-ending. The rest of the team is going to have to pick it up a pace, especially since Soriano was the team HR leader with 18 HRs and 42 RBIs. All those fans that wanted to see someone else in the lead-off spot will now get their wish. I see Lou trying both Fontenot and Theriot in that spot.

I do think this team has more depth and talent than when the Cubs lost Lee last year. It won’t be easy, but I’m not going to write them off yet. Lee, Ramirez, Floyd, Jones and Murton will just have to make up the difference, along with whoever the Cubs call up to replace Soriano on the roster.
