Two out of three ain’t bad

After an exciting extra-inning victory last night, the Cubs were going for the sweep this afternoon with ace Zambrano on the mound. It was not meant to be. Not only was Zambrano not sharp, but the bats also stayed quiet. Big Z was shown up by his much lesser known counterpart, both on the mound and at the plate. Giant’s pitcher Cain gave up eight hits but only one run. He also had a two-run homer off of Zambrano.

The good news is that the Cubs won two of three against the last place Giants, despite being anemic at the plate. The Cubs better bring new bats to Arizona, as the Diamondbacks are in first place and won’t be giving games away.

Hendry made another move today, getting outfielder Craig Monroe from the Detroit Tigers. He’ll provide some right-handed punch in the line-up when the Cubs go up against lefties, and he can play all three outfield positions. We got him for a player-to-be-named. Maybe we can give them whoever we end up getting from Pittsburgh for Izturis.
