Happy Birthday Lou!
Today is Lou Pinella’s birthday and he’s getting a great present — Soriano back in the line-up! I’m sure the team would love to give him an even nicer present by winning tonight and putting some distance between us and the Brewers. Not much we can do about the Cardinals until we face them in September. We have only three games with the Brewers left and five with the Cardinals the rest of the way. At this point you just have to take care of your own business and hope it’s enough.
Today I was invited to a writer’s conference in Boulder, CO. It sounds like a great event, it’s affordable and I could really stand to get out of town for a bit, BUT the conference is Oct. 12-14. I can’t commit to leaving town when the Cubs might be in the play-offs!!! It would just kill me to miss a play-off game at Wrigley.

Isn’t a great feeling to even have to consider conflicts in October? I was invited today to go to NYC in mid-October for a Springsteen concert, and my first thought was “I hope it doesn’t conflict with a Cubs playoff game”.
