Enough credit to spread around

It was truly a team effort yesterday as the Cubs came from behind to beat the Astros and take the series. Obvious credit goes to Lee for hitting the game winning two run homer, but the bullpen also came through with four hitless/scoreless innings and Jones made another great catch in center. Soriano even made up for his lack of stellar play in the outfield by getting a two-out hit in the 8th inning to keep the inning alive for Lee to hit his home run.

Marmol and the rest of the bullpen were stellar once again. Marmol got the win despite throwing only two pitches. Dempster got the save with a 1-2-3 9th inning, saving all of us from the hysteronics of the previous day (when he walked in a run before leaving the bases loaded). Wuertz, Wood and Eyre also pitched in to bail out Hill, who struggled through five innings.

It was such a beautiful day at Wrigley and so nice to have a September game that meant something. The crowd was into every pitch. No longer is Wrigley just the world’s largest beer garden; these fans are paying attention. Now the Dodgers are in for four games. They’re the last team the Cubs have to face in the regular season that have a better record than the Cubs. Good time for Lee to have found his swing.
