Gotta love that warm wind

What a game!  With the wind blowing out at 20+ mph, it wasn’t over until the last out, but the Cubs won it 13-8. Despite a rough outing by Marquis, the bullpen really came through. They tossed five scoreless innings, which is quite the accomplishment given that wind. Dempster gave up a long ball in the 9th, but I’m glad has was at least throwing strikes.

Soriano got the Cubs off on the right track with a lead-off home run on the first pitch. When are they going to stop throwing him first pitch fastballs down the middle; maybe the same time they stop testing his arm? Ramirez had an awesome day with two 3-run homers. It’s bizarre to have this warm of weather this late in the season, which usually leads to the wind blowing out like this. It’s also been unusual of late for the Cubs to capitalize on the wind like they did today. I just hope they didn’t use up all of their offense today, as I’ll be at Wrigley tomorrow for my last regular season game of the year. I’m not treating it as my last trip to Wrigley for the year!

Quick note on the non-Cub injury front. Ben Sheets, Milwaukee’s ace pitcher, has a slightly strained hamstring and is only hopeful for Sunday. Cincinnati’s Griffey is done for the season with a groin strain that he suffered while playing the Cubs this week. They were originally calling it an abdominal strain, but anyone watching that game knew that wasn’t where he was grabbing when he went down in a heap at Wrigley. His being out will only make our season-ending trip to Cincinnati easier, but still not easy.

I’m tempted to try for tickets as well, as I’ll only have one game per series. I guess I shouldn’t be greedy…
