Did Joe put in an out clause?

It was great to hear that Joe Girardi got a three-year, $7.5 million contract to be the manager of the Yankees. The only downside I see is that Lou’s contract is up in two years. I was hoping Joe would succeed him, but that doesn’t look like it will work now, unless Joe had an out clause put into his contract. I’m guessing the Yankees wouldn’t go for that.

Now we’ll get to see what kind of manager Joe really is. I’m guessing that if he could almost work miracles in Florida with virtually no payroll, he’ll do a great job with the Steinbrenner budget. Even without A-Rod, that team is still loaded with more talent than most.

Speaking of A-Rod, I’m glad it appears the Cubs most likely aren’t interested. Yes, he’s talented, but he’s looking for $30 million a year. This is a team sport and he’s never been on a winner. The Cubs finally have decent chemistry in the clubhouse, probably one of the reasons they won the division, and I’d hate to see another Sammy walk in and ruin it. (I feel the same about the Bulls and Kobe.)

It will be interesting to see who ends up with A-Rod and Bonds, two of the most high-profile free agents this off-season. As Wood and Prior are still officially under contract with the Cubs, I thought it was interesting when I heard that Dusty (the new Reds manager) has been ‘talking’ with them. He’s been accused of tampering before. I think Dusty should spend this time getting to know the players currently on his roster and not mess with our pitchers.

In other sports news, sorry to hear about your Domers this weekend. Though I did hear a good but mean joke from a friend. “In the past year the navy has proven it can beat unarmed Filipino kids, pro-democracy protestors in Guam, and Notre Dame. And the first two almost had a chance.”

Thanks for sharing Jeff. With the way my football teams are playing this year (Bears and ND), spring training can’t come soon enough.
