Wood staying with the Cubs
Yeah, Kerry Wood agreed to a one year deal with the Cubs today. He finally appears back to his fine form, if only a few innings at a clip. I certainly don’t want him pitching against us. He’ll be in the running for the closer spot now that it appears that Dempster will be given a shot at a spot in the rotation during spring training. Terms weren’t disclosed, but rumors have the money in the area of $4 million.
I didn’t realize that Wood ranks fourth on the Cubs all-time strikeout list with 1323 K’s. He also has the lowest batting average against (.215) of any Cubs pitcher in history (minimum 1000 innings pitched). I’d love to see him stay healthy this year and then have the Cubs lock him up to a multi-year deal.
No word on Prior’s health, attitude or status at this point.
For those who didn’t read about it during the busy Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the Brewers signed ex-Cub Jason Kendall. At least the Cubs should now be able to steal some bases on the Brewers next season.
