Welcome back Matt Murton

With Soriano’s injury (15 day DL) and hitless Eric Patterson headed back to Triple A, Murton was called up to join his former major league mates on Saturday. It’s great to have him back. I’m not happy about Soriano’s injury, but I hope Murton is given a chance to show that he belongs up here. I’m just not sure who else goes down when Soriano eventually returns.

The Cubs have warmed up their bats by scoring 26 runs the last two games. Let’s just hope they stay hot against the Mets, who are in town for the only time this year to play just two games at Wrigley. Sweeping the poor Pirates for the second time this season helped propel the Cubs into first place, but it’s too early to watch the standings and it was the Pirates after all. Although being 6-0 against them is no major feat, in the past the Cubs have had a problem beating the teams they were supposed to beat. The fact that our bats have woken up is also a positive sign heading into back-to-back series against the Mets and World Series losing Rockies.

Fukudome sat out his first game of the season yesterday. He had a swollen right eye due to a cyst. It doesn’t appear that this will sideline him for more than one day. Good thing the rest of the team stepped up and his bat wasn’t missed.

There is a great opportunity on Tuesday to attend a Red Line double-header. The Cubs play the Mets at 1:20 and the Sox play the Yankees at the Cell at 7:11 (is that silly promotion still going on?). I’d make the El trip if I weren’t busy, plus I already go to way too many games (is that possible?) and visited the Cell just last week to see ND beat NIU in a charity game.
