Falling Flat on the Road

The Cubs limped into their off day yesterday after suffering their second loss in a row at Houston. In those two losses the Cubs scored early but not often. A few mistakes by Cubs pitchers and there goes the ballgame(s). At least we’re headed for Pittsburgh, where the Cubs have had their way with the Pirates this year. We’ve got to take at least two of three there before heading home to face the Dodgers.

So why have the Cubs been so dominant at home this year (19-8) yet continue to struggle on the road (9-11)? The only road series they’ve won has been a sweep at Pittsburgh. They’ve managed to not get swept, but losing two of three on the road doesn’t bode well for winning a division. At least the great home record has been a pleasant surprise this season, especially after last year’s dismal play at Wrigley. Let’s hope we can right the ship on the road without changing the course at the Friendly Confines.
