Cubs Continue to Roll at Wrigley

Yesterday’s 10-9 comeback win over the Rockies will be one for the ages. It truly showed how this club plays as a team. Yes, Lilly has thrown better games. But his teammates came through for him, especially Blanco (2-2, 2 RBIs) and Hoffpauir (2-3), who came in to replace Soto and Lee, respectively. I was kinda annoyed when Lou made those replacements, but he must have known what he was doing. Edmonds also got the fans off his back, at least for the day, going 3-4 with 3 RBIs. I rarely mention the contribution of Fukudome (2-3, 2 RBIs), who is now batting .310 and just seems to get it done on a daily basis. Last, but not least, was DeRosa (1-3, 3 RBIs) who had the game-winning 2-run homer in the 7th.

Marmol comes in and is not to be outdone by the offense. He strikes out the side; all of them looking. Batters are just looking frustrated against him. Woody got his lucky 13th save and the place went nuts. Those who didn’t already have the feeling that this could just be the year started to believe…

Today was much more relaxed. The Cubs fronted the Rockies a few runs, but came back to take the lead quickly and never gave it up. It was a beautiful day at Wrigley, one of the nicest so far this season. I’ll be there tomorrow so I hope it’s a carbon copy day, from the weather to the results. Let’s go for two sweeps in a row before we head off to the west coast.
