Bumps and Bruises

The Cubs are getting pretty banged up. Not only is Zambrano nursing a sore arm which will probably side-line him for at least a few starts, but Edmonds has a sore foot and Johnson’s back is acting up. Good thing they brought up my boy Murton. Looks like he might get some playing time in left while Soriano is on the DL. To add to the bumps and bruises, Triple-A pitcher Hart, who was likely going to get called up to replace Zambrano for a start or two, just got hit in the head by a line drive. He walked off the field on his own after a few minutes on the ground, never losing consciousness, but he’s got a Category 1 concussion and will be out for a while himself.

Despite all of that, this team is deep enough to continue to play hard and score some runs. The bench and call-ups will have to step up and contribute. Luckily for us the Cardinals have continued to lose while the Cubs have struggled in Tampa. We have to win tonight in order to maintain our claim of no more than two loses in a row this season. More importantly, we need to get back into the winning groove before heading home to face the White Sox, especially since they just swept the Pirates.
