Sweep Home Chicago

Let Ozzie continue to complain about Wrigley as long as the Cubs keep hitting his pitching like this. The Cubs swept the Sox back to the southside Sunday night with another fine pitching performance to go with the offensive show. The Cubs soundly beat the Sox for the second straight game (the first game was a come-from-behind gem) and this isn’t a bad Sox team. Of course, it would be nice to beat them at the Cell next weekend to show that we can actually win away from the Friendly Confines.

Dempster is now 9-0 at home this year. Hopefully he’ll feel like he’s at home his next start, which will be in Chicago but on the other side of town. He allowed only one run on ten hits and was helped out by three double plays. The Cubs are clicking on all cylinders right now. The bats are alive, bases are being stolen and the defense is sharp. All of this gave Dempster the confidence to throw strikes and let his teammates help him win the game. Of course, it helps to pitch with the lead.

The Cubs have now won 14 in a row at home for the first time since 1936. They are back to 20 games over .500 and are 4 1/2 games ahead of the Cardinals (their biggest lead of the season). Bring on the Orioles, who are 38-36 but only 16-24 on the road.

I’ll be at the game on Tuesday with my friend Patti to help celebrate her birthday with friends. What better birthday present than a Cubs victory?
