Wrong End of the Broom
Getting swept by the White Sox hurts for so many different reasons. Not only do we have to listen to Sox fans yap about it, but the three losses, combined with losing the last home game to Baltimore, gives the Cubs their first four-game losing streak of the season. They also lost the title of best record in the majors. Oh well, no sense dwelling on the past… All that they can do is try to get back on the winning track on the road.
I was going to write that this next series was going to come down to whether Ramirez started hitting or not, but it appears that he won’t even be playing the next three games. He has a family emergency back in the Dominican Republic and the team has excused him until Thursday. Now on top of the injuries, we’re a man down on the bench. Time for Cedeno to prove he belongs playing with the big boys. He came up big early in the season, but has struggled of late, especially with runners in scoring position late in the game.
Well, the next three games are late ones (9:15 starts), so I hope everyone took their naps. Here’s hoping Lilly can outpitch SF’s overpaid bust (Zito). We certainly don’t want him to start earning that paycheck against us.

Is it just me, or does it seem foolish that the Cubs and the Sox would risk injury and exhaustion by having two cross-town series so close to each other? And are the cross-towns usually two sets of three? Just a thought as I don’t think the Cubs should do anything to risk their standings. Quite frankly, I believe that a goat should throw out the first pitch at all remaining games and be allowed to sing the 7th inning stretch. At minimum, a goat needs to have a place of honor. Once that occurs, we can all laugh. And laughter is the way to remove a curse….

What are the chances of our Cubbies sweeping the Cardinals this weekend? Wouldn’t that be great. Big Z is back and needs to get back on track tomorrow with a stellar performance.
Have a safe and fun 4th of July weekend and cheer for the Cubbies!!
