No Place Like Home

I wouldn’t slight Zambrano by saying it’s only the Cubs being at home that allowed them to win last night. He not only pitched well but also had a key RBI double. Of course, Marmol had to make it exciting, walking three and striking out three in just over one inning to get the save.

The big news today is that with Wood going on the DL (retroactive to July 11 so he can come back Tuesday in Milwaukee), the Cubs have called up Jeff Samardzija. It’s going to take me a while to type that name without looking it up. For those who don’t know that name, he is the former Notre Dame football player who chose to play for the Cubs over playing in the NFL. He’s moved through the Cubs system quickly and I don’t think he’ll be up for very long. It will be nice to see what he can do, but I’d like to see him seasoned a little more before getting battered by major leaguers. That being said, I hope I get to see him pitch on Sunday. Of course, I only want him in the game because the Cubs are blowing out the Marlins and Lou wants to give him some experience.
