Let It Rain, Let it Rain…
I haven’t sold many of my tickets this year, so I felt relieved to be home and dry last night. At the same time, I felt bad for the sisters of my friend who had purchased my tickets. At least they got to see quite a light show, as well as an Elvis impersonator trying to slide on the tarp, if they stayed around that long. It was 70’s night, after all.
I was surprised that the umps let the rain delay go so long, but it was a good call. The weather did clear for a while, before the lightening came back stronger than ever. I only live a mile or so north of the park and the sounds of the sirens wailing was something out of War of the Worlds. I hear them tested every month, but when they’re put to use for real, the sound is nothing like during the test.
The skies are clear today, so the Cubs only have to play against the Astros, not the elements. Of course, given the heat and humidity, the players might hope for a rain shower by the end of the day.
News out of the bullpen: Wood has been reactivated. Unfortunately, to make room for him they had to designate Scott Eyre for assignment. That pretty much ends Eyre’s career with the Cubs. I hope some other team picks him up. Wood won’t go back to his closer role immediately. He’ll spend at least a few games doing short relief. I expect him to be closing again by the end of the Cardinals series if he gets enough work this week.

I was at Monday nights game. Quite an experience. When they told everyone to go under the stands, I knew it was a pretty serious situation. The thing that impressed me was how orderly the crowd was heading for cover. Many just left the park but others, such as myself who had a beer to finish, just stood downstairs and watched the crowd and waited for the rain to let-up. I am glad Wood is back. Hopefully he will get into All-Star form quickly.
