Winning on the Road
The sweep of the doubleheader in Atlanta gives the Cubs a seven-game road winning streak. That’s the longest since ‘04 and the first doubleheader sweep on the road since ‘92. The Cubs are also now 26 games over .500, which hasn’t been attained by a Cubs team since ‘84.
There is so much to be happy about after watching those two game. The hitting, pitching and defense were all great. Fukudome broke out of his slump, the bullpen was awesome and the starting pitching got out of their jams. It’s nice to know that Marquis and Harden can both win when they’re not at their sharpest.
The only negative from yesterday’s games was Soriano. It’s bad enough when he shows up the pitcher by standing at the plate to watch his homers sail out of the park. It’s unacceptable when the ball doesn’t go out and he ends up at first base with a 400 ft. single. I know that he’s apologized to Lou and the team and promised that it won’t happen again. The thing is, it almost did. He got another double in the second game and almost stopped to watch it. He was more in a home run trot than a sprint as he left the box. I don’t care how well he’s hitting. Next time he pulls this stuff, Lou needs to pull him from the game immediately.

Though I could not agree with you more as I can’t stand show boats in sports, Lou will never pull Soriano if he exhibits the same behavior. If he did, he would loose him (meaning effort) for the rest of the season. The Cubs do need his bat down the stretch, however, they made a huge mistake signing this guy for the amount they did. Just like Sosa, they made this bed, now they have to sleep in it, boom box and all.
